Published by H. Jhon · October 2026

French TVA without the arithmetic: enter a net amount to see it grossed up at 20%, or enter a gross amount to have the TVA extracted for you.

How the French VAT calculator works

Bar chart: adding 20% VAT to a €100 net price gives €100 net, €20 VAT, €120 gross
A €100 net price plus 20% VAT = €120 gross. The calculator above works this out for any amount.

French VAT rates (TVA)

France layers four rates on top of each other. Beyond the 20% standard rate there is a 10% band for hospitality and travel, a 5.5% band for daily essentials, and a near-zero 2.1% band preserved for reimbursed medicines and the press.

Franchise en base: the French VAT exemption

France exempts small traders through the franchise en base TVA: no VAT is charged while annual turnover stays under €85,000 for goods sales or €37,500 for services. Breach the ceiling and VAT applies from the first day of the month of overrun, on the régime réel.

Businesses on the réel normal file monthly or quarterly returns depending on turnover, while those on the régime simplifié settle VAT once a year with two interim payments.
